Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from others kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
