Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he loved taking part in numerous card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting really aggressive in these particular card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York to participate in some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s first two years were tough as he would play countless hours and do not win a majority of the time. He made some additional money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he might improve his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He brought about an attempt to get more rest and focus even more on poker.

The definite improvement in his skills began when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best players would regularly wager against each other. Howard had access into a number of the best minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would tweak his cunning thinking skills. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of No-Limit holdem.

He also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. She was a great student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. He told Annie to head out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the greatest female players the poker arena ever. Howard moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and played cash games for the next decade. When the WPT gained popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
