Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the last table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While participating in web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best players in the world might just be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in big stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
