Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he enjoyed playing various card games when he was young. He found himself becoming very aggressive in these card games while competing against his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little while and moved away to New York City to play some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were rough as he played countless hours and lose a majority of the time. He earned some extra cash by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he possibly could boost his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He made an effort to acquire more rest and focus even more on poker.

The definite improvement in his abilities began when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would regularly challenge one another. Howard was able to access several of the greatest players in chess. With their help, he would tweak his logical thinking techniques. Howard used these strategy concepts in the game of NL texas hold’em.

He also helped his sibling Annie Duke master poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and play in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the strongest female players the poker arena ever. He relocated to Vegas in 1993 and played money games for the successive decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
