Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
